Located in the small village of Penrhiw-llan, West Wales,
The Chapel Barn is a self contained, beautifully finished and designed, Holiday
cottage.
Origionally built as a Coach House for the Chapel
The Chapel Barn, dates back to the 1890’s.
The construction of the Chapel House attached to the barn
( Gwernllwyn Chapel House or Ty Capel ) is of sand stone which was very expensive
in 1873 when the Chapel House was built.
A cheaper option for the barn was to use bricks, which were made in the local village
of Newcastle Emlyn.
Used for storage for many years, The Chapel Barn was completely restored and converted
to what it is now by its owners.
Conversion of the Coach House started with the removal of all old walls and concrete
engine beds that were installed to generate power for the Chapel House.
Original beams and walls were left and restored to keep the character of this historic
building.
The old front doors were reclaimed and used within The Barn
to keep some more of the history within.
New floors, ceilings and walls were built with large amounts of insulation to ensure
that the property was economical to run and environmentally efficient.
